I have to admit, when we first started seeing the tuxedo trend pop up on the runway, I was a little intimidated at the thought of trying to make mens’ wear work for me. I’ve always flocked to flowy cocktail dresses and bright colors for dressy occasions, so this was a little bit out of the ordinary. A little confused, I asked my boyfriend (ever the stylish one) for his thoughts on the tuxedo trend. His response? “Well, penguins are cute.”
His response gave me somewhat of an “ah-ha” moment.
To make this trend work for me, I had to make it a little less formal and a little more “cute”. I opted for slightly-slouchy not-so-matchy fabrics over a structured suit, short shorts over tailored pants, and a cute pair of high heels to finish it off.
And at the end of the day, I had to pop my collar. Because penguins are cute when they pop their collars.
