We’re pretty much obsessed with kale around here. Its’ sturdy leaves and slightly-bitter taste lends itself nicely to all kinds of casseroles, soups, and even smoothies! But today we’re bringing it back to the basics…we’re making kale chips!
Kale Chips
Ingredients:
- I bunch kale
- 1-2 tb olive oil
- 1 ts salt
1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
2. Using your hands, tear the kale into bite-sized pieces. Make sure you avoid using the thick stalk at the base of each leaf because it will not cook through.
3. In a large bowl, toss the kale, olive oil and salt. Lay the kale leaves on the parchment paper. To get a crispier texture, place the leaves on the parchment paper in a position that exposes as much air as possible. An example of this is placing the v-shaped pieces upside down so the heat can get under them in the oven and crisp them up!
4. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes.
*Note: For best results, make sure you start with dry kale. If there is too much water leftover from rinsing the leaves, you will not get the crisp deliciousness you want!
The reason we love this recipe so much is that you can do so many things with it. We tried a lot of different combinations (we even tried cooking spray instead of the olive oil with varying degrees of success), but our favorite combination was Wegman’s Basting Oil, toasted sesame seeds, garlic power, and sea salt. Yum!
Happy Snacking!
